The Magnine Diamond

As told by Peter Magnine - The history of the Magnine Diamond many years ago, when Nuns were Nuns, the MAGNINE family had one of our very own.
Sister Mary Eudora was a member of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Sister Eudora was the daughter of Mary MAGNINE MARTURANO. Mary was one of the sisters of my Grandfather Peter. Mary MARTURANO had 5 daughters and Sister Eudora was the oldest. Sister Eudora became a BVM in 1929 and she was assigned to the Mother House in Iowa. But she would frequently return home to Chicago to visit her family including her many cousins. As is the practice in the Church people make donations. Sometimes it is money and sometimes it is property.
And this is where the story of "THE MAGNINE DIAMOND" starts.
An unknown person donated a Diamond to the Church. Sister Eudora was given the assignment to have the Diamond appraised and to sell it with the proceeds going to the Church.
This is evidently where my father John comes into the picture. John was one of Sister Eudora's cousins. John agreed to accompany Sister Eudora in her quest to sell the Diamond for the Church. John also told Sister Eudora that whatever it was appraised for he would buy it, and he did. John had the Diamond and wore it in a ring for many years finally giving it to his son Peter.
Peter gave the Diamond to his wife Bonny. Bonny wore it for many years and finally put it away for our son John-Robert. Bonny told J-R that he could have the Diamond when he found the woman he was ready to marry.
Well that day finally arrived. J-R asked his mother to bring "The MAGNINE DIAMOND" on our vacation to San Francisco.
And then on a dark and cold night on Alcatraz J-R popped the question and presented "The MAGNINE DIAMOND" to his beloved Maria de los Angeles. He gave her THE ROCK on the Rock. And so "The MAGNINE DIAMOND" is beginning the next part of its journey through life.

The proposal - John version

John's storyI was near the dock looking out into the city. I said "Come look at this with me, she said "Ugh." and wined. I went over & got her. I tell her "look at the skyline - Isn't it beautiful - The city all lit up at night " she replie "yea, but look at the water" then I say "Could you imagine being locked up with me for ever?" she replies "of course baby" so I got down on one knee - pull out the ring and asked her to marry me. She replies "Are you kidding - Are you joking". I looked around - thinking I was on candid camera - again I repeat "will you marry me" My girlfriend has a glazed look in her eyes - She says "What do you think? Of Course - I will - You shouldn't even need to ask"...

The Proposal - Angie version

Angie's story...It was a cold and foggy night... Well - It really was...We were on a family vacation in San Francisco - taking an evening tour of Alcatraz Island. We were heading back to the boat and we decide to take a little breather from walking up and down the steep hills. I decided to take a little break on the bench - John decided to gaze at the San Fran skyline.. John calls me over but I don't want to get up - calls again still "No" then finally Bonny gives me a little push to get up. John starts commenting on how beautiful the Golden Gate Bridge is and how the lights are bright and shiny... All the while I'm really looking at the water and seeing how close we are and how the water is disappearing under the fog (I start visualizing fog creatures coming to get us)... John says "Would you like to be locked up together", and I say of course - babe!... John gets on one knee and says "Angie, will you marry me" while holding the ring... I romantically respond... "Are you kidding?", "Are you for real" .. I was thinking so many things.. It didn't seem real - I thought it was a bad joke. He asks again - "Will you marry me?" I said "Of Course, Is there any doubt?". Then he puts the ring on my right hand finger.. We quickly figured out that it was the wrong hand. We hug and kiss and then we go tell Bonny and Peter - Still the idea has not hit me.. Until I see Bonny and I hug her - I start crying like a baby... Reality has hit... BOOM .. I'm going to be married !!!
